My Approach

 I am dedicated to providing a safe and confidential therapeutic atmosphere in which I can help my client's and their families reach their goals, heal themselves, and achieve their potential. I take an eclectic and practical approach to counseling and use a variety of therapeutic techniques customized for the client so that they can be successful. 

 I use evidence-based practices, and favor third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT) such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), that emphasize an acceptance and mindfulness-based approach. I also will use, when appropriate, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
 
Third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies focus on increasing awareness and acceptance of one's internal experience in order to reduce unhealthy ways of coping and behaving. The ultimate goal of third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies is to help individuals become more psychologically flexible in order to live a value-driven life that is richer and more meaningful. EMDR is an evidence based therapeutic perspective and protocol that focuses on the self-healing of the brain and asserts that our struggles are a result of "what's happened to us" not "what's wrong with us."
